What is AMP8?

Asset Management Period 8 — The Biggest Water Investment in History

AMP8 runs from April 2025 to March 2030 and covers every water company in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. It was determined by Ofwat's PR24 process and represents more than double the investment of any previous AMP cycle.

For the first time, water companies face financial penalties if they miss AMP8 targets — which means procurement is moving faster, frameworks are opening earlier, and the supply chain is under pressure to respond at pace.

Storm overflow improvements. Lead pipe replacement. Treatment works upgrades. Network digitalisation. Smart metering. Every one of these programmes creates procurement opportunities for the supply chain — if you know where to look.

£14.5bn — Storm Overflow Improvements
14,187 overflow sites. Every one needs surveying, monitoring and many need upgrading. Creating major frameworks for civil, MEICA and environmental specialists.
£22bn — Water Supply & Treatment
New reservoirs, treatment works upgrades, PFAS removal and drinking water quality improvements driving major frameworks for treatment technology and construction specialists.
£12bn — Network Resilience & Leakage
Lead pipe replacement, mains renewal and smart metering programmes across all water companies. Steady pipeline of work for pipeline and civil engineering contractors.
£8bn — Digital & Data
SCADA upgrades, IoT sensor networks, digital twins, CWQM rollout and smart metering programmes. Major opportunity for technology and data specialists.
